Personal words from Soenardhi Yogantara, director WPL Foundation

Dear Eworkers, colleagues and friends,

I have been dedicating my time and knowledge since 2000 in an environmental awareness and initiative movement among grassroot riparian community in Upper Citarum River in West Java, Indonesia. I first initiated the environmental care movement among a low income settlements by conducting various awareness campaign ‘not to throw our garbage into the river and its environment, but treat the garbage as resources instead’… only almost 2 years later that a community based solid waste management service settled applying 3 R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principle. My neighbors began to separate their generated solid wastes, and collect them and dump in an agreed one disposal sites. Later the disposed garbages were reseparated and composting practice was done. The village which used to be filthy and dirty by spreading heaps of garbages turn to be much cleaner and of course healthier. The idea was shortly disseminated and replicated in many different settlements along the waterways. Environmental Care Initiative Group were formed in those locations and their capacity were enhanced. These groups were encouraged to conduct a participatory assessment on environmental problems they face, and try to find their own solutions. Currently the movements spreads to almost 30 different locations whilst the environmental issue to be addresses are varied from ridges to reef, from solid waste problems, sanitations, clean water, and upper catchment’s conservation and rehabilitation. Our core program has been on community capacity building including eco education. Currently the movement facilitate an environmental education program with almost 30 primary schools and secondary schools, numerous religious boarding schools besides organizing environmental trainings and community organizer trainings.

The recognition of WPL by the World Justice Project Forum is invaluable for myself and it will help us enhance our organizational capacity besides networking with a worldwide multidisciplinary participants.

Thank you to all kind assistance in supporting a small struggle to save our planet on the other side of the world, West Java’s longest river in Indonesia.

Warm regards from the tropic

Dear Mr. Yogantara,

On behalf of the World Justice Project (WJP), we are delighted to invite you to participate in World Justice Forum III, June 20-23, 2011, in Barcelona, Spain. In joining this global platform, which aims to strengthen the rule of law, you will be one among a diverse group of 500 invited leaders from 100 countries.

Since its founding in 2006, the WJP has been leading a multinational, multidisciplinary movement to strengthen the rule of law worldwide. The WJP is based on two complementary premises: that the rule of law is the foundation for communities of opportunity and equity and that multidisciplinary collaboration is the most effective way to advance the rule of law. Delegates to Forum III will include key rule of law stakeholders, including lawyers and judges, but also, and as importantly, artists, business professionals, educators, environmentalists, faith leaders, human rights activists, the media, government officials, public health workers, and others. Our invitations are based upon demonstrated community leadership and commitment to change.

The goal of Forum III is to incubate projects that stimulate positive and measurable changes in advancing the rule of law. You will work with prominent leaders and change agents from a broad cross-section of professional fields and nationalities to explore, debate, and develop new projects which will strengthen the rule of law in your community and across the world. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other attendees online in advance of Forum III to help you prepare effectively and, after you leave Barcelona, implement your projects at home.

To stimulate the development of concrete projects, Forum III will consist of engaging topical panel discussions featuring individuals at the forefront of multidisciplinary rule of law advancement as well as project design sessions. We are also excited to present new WJP Rule of Law Index™ data on over 65 countries.

You will be pleased to know that, for the first time, we are introducing an open participant nomination process for Forum III. In addition to nominations from our Honorary Co-Chairs, Board of Directors and Officers, Co-Sponsoring organizations, and financial supporters, we will consider public recommendations of outstanding individuals that have contributed to advancing the rule of law, from an interdisciplinary perspective. This new invitation process is expected to augment the wisdom and energy displayed at Forum III.

Travel to the World Justice Forum III and accommodations in Barcelona are the responsibility of the individual participant. Additional registration and travel information will be provided upon receipt of your RSVP.

Please let us know by April 13, 2011, if you can attend the World Justice Forum III by contacting the WJP at worldjusticeforum@wjpnet.org.
